MANUU-UNICEF organise Orientation for Risk Communication against COVID-19

 

A two day orientation program under MANUU-UNICEF partnership project on Risk Communication and Community Engagement ended on Saturday 30th July at the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad. This is the second project undertaken by MANUU and UNICEF.

Supporting the efforts of the government to create awareness, Community leaders and District Coordinators from 15 cities gathered at MANUU to discuss the strategy and plan for awareness among the people of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. They also shared their experiences of working among the people.

Mr B.V Subba Reddy from UNICEF highlighted the importance of taking precautions. He asked the community leaders and district coordinators to make aware the public and inform them to take utmost care of kids and elders and opined that these are testing times in which the leaders and coordinators as a part of community and society have to behave responsibly.

The district coordinator from Mehboobnagar, Maulana Khwaja Hafiz Faizuddin put forward the value of testing for better recovery. Mufti Syed Sirajjudin , District Coordinator, Bidar, Karnataka talked about the need for value based intervention in brining positive attitudinal and behavioural change. Mr. Shahid Parvez, Documentation Officer, Project, discussed about the precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19. Mr. Nadir Baig, Project Coordinator said that vulnerable population including children must be given proper care and attention.

Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Head Department of MCJ and Project Director introduced the programme and said that the project is based on generating health awareness at mass level to combat the spread of COVID-19. It engages Religious and Community Leaders to sensitize, aware and educate local people about the preventive measures and techniques that would help in reducing the mass transmission.

The programme was attended by number of local community members, district coordinators including Abubakr Siddiq (Bijapur), Talha Hussain (Gulbaraga), Ramzan Makandar (Belgam), Moin (Telangana), Imran Ali (Nizamabad), Mohammad Rafiq Mulla from Bangalore and others from different regions of 3 states. Research scholars, students and faculty members of the Department also attended.
