PhD. from the University of Delhi, Dr. Akhtar Parvez is University Librarian at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) and is Nodal Officer for all the departmental and 12 Satellite Campuses libraries of the University. Prior to joining MANUU in January 2017, he worked as Librarian at the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Indore. He was also the First Appellate Authority on RTI Matters at IIM Indore.

 

Dr. Parvez has about 33 years of professional experience of working in prestigious institutions, both in government and private sector. These institutions include:

 

  • National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER);

  • The American Center-USIS-New Delhi;

  • DELNET;

  • India International Centre;

  • ICRA; and,

  • IIM Indore

 

Dr. Parvez has authored/edited 13 books, contributed 20 papers in journals and books, and has been delivering lectures on various issues related to the field of library and information services. Dr. Parvez specialises in designing processes in various operational areas of library management and has successfully implemented them in his libraries leading to staff efficiency enhancement.

 

In addition to serving to important academic committees in various capacities, he is the Managing Editor of Journal of Library Management and is on the editorial board of the International e-Journal of Library Science and International Research, Journal of Library and Information Science, published by King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Parvez is Member, Board of Studies, Department of Library & Information Science, Osmani University since June 2021 onward.

 

He won the Best Paper Award during the International Conference on Innovations in Engineering & Management held at Waljat College of Applied Sciences, Muscat, Oman in February 2016.

Dr. Parvez was recognised as the Outstanding Management Librarian by Association of Indian Management Scholars and Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA); Promising Professional Award by SRFLIS; Best Young Librarian Award from Indore Division Library Association; Vishwa Laxmi Best Management Librarian Award, and few other prestigious awards in the field of Library & Information Services.

Dr. Parvez is the founder Secretary of Management Libraries Network (MANLIBNET) and has been contributing to MANLIBNET activities since 1998-99. He was Treasurer of the Indian Library Association for the terms – 2002 to 2004 & 2004 to 2007.

To give back to the LIS community, in May 2021, Dr. Parvez played a significant role in forming Help-LIS Mission to assist those LIS professionals and their families who have been severely affected by COVID-19.

The award was presented to him by the President, Indore Division Library Association and the Chairman, Holy Maa Maya Foundation on September 27, 2015 at Indore.
  8. Received Distinguished Member Award from the Asian Library Association, New Delhi for possessing extra-ordinary leadership ability and collaborating with national and international organisations for promoting the mission of librarianship. The award was presented during the International Conference on Digital Governance held at IIM Indore during April 14, 2016.
  9. Received VishwaLaxmi Best Management Librarian Award by INMANTEC Institutions. The award was presented on December 9, 2016 at INMANTEC, Ghaziabad.
